Our Story

From Faraway Ovens to Edinburgh Streets

Our bakery was born from one baker’s homesick heart, a suitcase of family recipes, and a love affair with Scottish ingredients. This is the story of how East met West in the warmth of our ovens.

How Our Bakery Began

Our story begins in a small, bustling kitchen in Asia, where mornings smelled of steamed buns, toasted sesame, and slow-simmered sugar. It was there that our founder first fell in love with the quiet rituals of baking: the early starts, the soft dough under steady hands, and the way a simple pastry could bring an entire family to the table.

Years later, that same baker arrived in Edinburgh with a suitcase that was far too heavy with baking tools and handwritten recipe books. The city’s cobbled streets, misty mornings, and generous warmth felt instantly like home. But something was missing: the comforting flavours of home and the familiar crackle of freshly baked Asian pastries.

So the idea for our bakery was born—not as a grand plan, but as a quiet promise: to blend traditional Asian pastry techniques with the best of Scottish ingredients. To fold in local butter and oats alongside glutinous rice flour, black sesame, and matcha. To create a space where a custard bun and a buttery shortbread could share the same plate, and nobody would think it strange at all.

Meet the Baker

Behind every loaf and every delicate pastry is our founder, a baker who learned patience from her grandmother’s hands and resilience from starting over in a new country. She grew up in a home where recipes were not written down but remembered—measured in pinches, handfuls, and stories told over simmering pots.

When she moved to Edinburgh, she brought those stories with her. In the early days, she baked in a tiny flat kitchen, experimenting late into the night with Scottish flour, local cream, and seasonal berries, weaving them into familiar shapes from home. Some experiments were glorious failures; others became the pastries our regulars now ask for by name.

Her philosophy is simple: bake slowly, seasonally, and with intention. Respect the craft, the farmers, and the traditions that came before. Let each pastry taste of where it came from, and where it is being shared. In every swirl of custard and crackle of caramelised sugar, there is a little of her journey—from a childhood kitchen in Asia to a neighbourhood bakery in Edinburgh.

Our East-Meets-West Mission

We believe that flavours can be bridges. Our mission is to bring the comforting tastes of Asian bakeries into conversation with the hearty, time-honoured ingredients of Scotland. Every item in our display is a small meeting point between cultures: milk bread made with Scottish butter, miso caramel folded through oat crumble, hojicha sponge layered with raspberries from nearby farms.

We care deeply about where our ingredients come from. We work with local mills, dairies, and growers whenever we can, pairing their craft with the techniques passed down through our founder’s family. The result is a menu that feels both familiar and surprising, where each bite carries a sense of warmth, curiosity, and home.

More than anything, our bakery is a place to slow down. To linger over a bun and a cup of tea, to taste something new alongside something comforting, and to feel, even for a moment, that you are exactly where you’re meant to be.
